The situation in Bangkok was pretty bad but now it started to cool down a bit. When they were just doing a peaceful rally it did not affect me much but then they started blocking roads so I could not go to certain parts of Bangkok and school was closed on some days. Then they brought in the military but I could still go to school most days and live half a normal life. Then fighting started. All schools got closed for a week. My mom was tensed and could not stop watching the news. The troops and protesters fought and each day it got worse. Over 40 people died and over 200 were injured. They even brought in tanks. The fighting affected my life because I could not go out. When the red shirt leaders surrendered the people who did not want to surrender burned banks and smashed many phone booths including the ones out side my soi. They also destroyed other government owned stuff. They started looting. Now because of them there is a curfew. I am also very sad that they burned down some of my favorite malls and is making Bangkok go bankrupted. I am also sad that Bangkok will never be the same and they are spoiling Bangkok’s good reputation. I was vey lucky while all the fighting was going on that I lived in a private community and far away from the fighting. By: Parveen Narula
